Burnhope Seat Circuit
From Burnhope Reservoir the route climbs onto Coldberry on a trackway. The rest of the route is off piste, there are no paths to speak of but there is a lot of peat bog to be traversed so this route is best attempted during a dry spell, Route takes in Three Pikes, High Field, Scaud Hill, Burnhope Seat, Dead Stones and Highwatch. Start Wet Sleddale car park. Road back to Coopers Green. Cross moor to old construction road. Follow track to Keld road. Follow road W to Tailbert. Cross moor on FP to Swindale. Road and track to Swindale Head. Climb on to Nabs Moor to Mosedale Beck. Return on green track via Scam Matthew and Sleddale Hall to Reservoir. 18 km, 480m ascent/descent, 4:30hrs. Robert's Seat
Start at Tan Hill Inn. Take road to Keld then FP along Tan Gill to Thomas Gill Rigg. Pass Robert's Seat to Ravenseat. FP along How Edge Scars, Oven Mouth, Smithy Holme and Cotterby Scar. North Stainmore
This walk gives superb views over the Pennine watershed but is very boggy in places so is probably best done after a dry spell or when the ground is frozen hard. Park at former Punch Bowl pub in North Stainmore, take minor road NE to moor. Follow path NE over Bow Crag to Soulgill Head. UA Bdy fence gives handrail SE to Pind Hill and then S to Round Hill. Return along BW to road via Wham Mouth and then retrace to Punch Bowl. 12.1km, 302m ascent/descent, 3hrs. (Based on a gpx trace (avoiding boggiest bits) recorded on 23/11/12)
