Wainwrights

Hills mountains of the Lake District volumes 1-7 of Wainwright's A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells.

(Note the there are no qualification criteria for Wainwrights, the author sometimes gives a summit location that is not the highest point of the fell. Our policy is to take the location intended by Wainwright. The list is not subject to revision.)

Ben Nevis Tourist Path Safety Bearing

The path up is in the form of a tracklog plotted from 1:50 map to 10 figure accuracy. The saftey bearings for the way down are taken from www.mcofs.org.uk/assets/mountainsafety/nevis_map.gif and are recorded as a route between 3 points. The ability to follow a compass bearing and estimate distance travelled are essential mountain navigation skills. Always take a map and compass not only your GPS. Note: these waypoints DO NOT reflect the positions of the new set of summit cairns.
NB: This file is a 'Route' consisting of a small number of Waypoints plotted on a Computer, it is NOT as detailed as a Track recorded by a GPS in the field.
 Start: Glen Nevis NN166712
Distance: 4.3 miles, Ascent: 1334 meters, Estimated Walking Time: 5 hrs.
