  • Chris Pearson says...
  • Steeply up from the 18th century Litton Mill (now holiday lets)where city orphans in the late 1700s worked under the notorious Ellis Needham in awful conditions from 5am - 10pm. The mill was powered by the water of the River Wye, using Richard Arkwright's water frame for spinning cotton(before steam power in the Lancashire mills took over in 1810. Rainbow trout under the footbridge. Climbed above the lit Litton tunnel (many cyclists and walkers out on the Monsal Trail) passing covered old lead mines A lone tree near the summit stands out from miles away. Worked our way west aiming for Priestcliffe Hill next as part of a 20km walk from Ashford on a hot July day
