  • Climbed steeply from the north up flag stone track and field fps. Pre WW1 this was Lancashire cotton spinning country with its coal fields. The cotton being brought in by the Rochdale canal with its cross Pennine link. Close by is the preserved 120 foot chimney (to get a good draught)of the engine shed and boiler house that powered (the now demolished) Elenroad Cotton Mill.
