Member's Comments on Blackrod...

  • Chris Pearson says...
  • Blackrod stands on an important Roman road from London to the North. Situated on high ground with a commanding view it is believed that a Roman Fort was built here. Blackrod was once a major coal mining centre with at least seven pits in the village and over a thousand miners. Today the summit church stands out when travelling along the M61.
