  • Nick Wakelam says...
  • Car park to SW for the White Horse. Walked east along north side of fence and then north along edge of field passing copse. Obvious top just over fence to east, easy at moment as fence down but in process of being repaired. Excellent views. Continued on to bag King's Play Hill on 4.5 mile circular walk.
  • Chris Pearson says...
  • 20/2/15 identical walk to that posted above by NW. The White Horse was created (dug) only in 1999 and has darker colour stones for an eye and nostrils. Arable big prairie fields -( and one for free range pigs) - all very flat - Roundway Down was the greatest cavalry victory of the English Civil War in 1643. The Royalists (who won)christened the battle "Runaway Down". The defeat of the Parliamentarian army arrayed in proper battle order who were were waiting for them on high ground by a column of Royalist cavalry that had just ridden down from Oxford (to relieve the besieged Devizes)was regarded as remarkable.
