  • Chris Pearson says...
  • A pretty village green hill top in a pretty village - popular with the well to do who work in nearby Royal Tunbridge wells. The church - St Alban's Frant was a major surveying point for the Anglo-French Survey (1784–1790) calculating the precise distance and relationship between the Paris Observatory and the Royal Greenwich Observatory, undertaken by General William Roy.This led to the creation of the Ordnance Survey which commenced in 1791, one year after his death, by extending the basic Anglo-French Survey (1784–1790) to the rest of Great Britain over the following sixty years.
