  • Chris Pearson says...
  • One of the UK's 3 Forestry Commission research stations is here, investigating worldly issues such as climate change and how woodlands can be adapted to help mitigate global warming by carbon capture. Forest hydrology and Soil conservation feature in their work as do grey squirrels under Pests and Controls and unusual topics such as the socio-economic aspects of woodland. To get some exercise at lunch time the scientists are conveniently close to the 'Go Ape' high ropes course in the same forest. Alternatively they can visit Penguin Island at Birdworld to see the Humboldt’s Penguins which have been a feature ever since Johnny Morris officially opened Penguin Island in 1984.
