  • Bean field fight following tractor tracks through should high crop behind water tower. Highpoint of Isle of Sheppy reached over the Sheppy Crossing bridge (built 2006) where a 130 car pile up happened in fog in 2013. The island has a busy port (Sheerness), miles of nature reserve marshes, many holiday chalet parks, a pioneering airfield used by the Wright brothers, and 3 prisons - having housed the MP John Taylor for MP expenses fraud and Jonathan Aitkin. Earlier residents of Sheppey included the Vikings who used it as winter camp and the Dutch who in 1667gave Sheppey the dubious distinction of being one of few parts of what is now the United Kingdom to be (temporarily) lost to a foreign power since William the Conqueror's invasion in 1066.
