  • ROW from the east passing playful goats with a donkey joining in their game of chase. In another field were Shetland Ponies not doing much. A notice on the locked door of the summit tower invites visitors to collect a key from Toat House if they want to climb to the tower top. Probably no need for my awkward "commando" approach crawling under two electric fences. Long views to the north from such a small hill. In 2013 the Cowdry Hunt met at the summit monument for refreshments but according to their webpage " Mr Whitmore’s Landrover had failed to make the gradient in difficult conditions, so the vittals were transported in the old-fashioned manner. Such considerable effort was all the more appreciated by a field of 30, who on the whole had encountered fewer problems reaching the top. That they might get down again after such generosity was a different matter…
