  • Started walk to this trig from Upholland train station and done along with the north top

  • Visited this in 1990. Easy access from nearby Crank Road. The structure on the summit, which is often referred to as a beacon tower, began life as a summerhouse for nearby Winstanley Hall. Underneath Billinge Hill is a nuclear bunker, which would have been used by the Royal Observer Corps, to monitor detonations of atomic bombs across South Lancashire, and predict the distribution of nuclear fallout, in the event of a war.
