  • Camperdown is in the historic county of Northumberland. It lay in the former Longbenton Urban District from 1912 and 1974 a lower tier administrative area of the former Northumberland Administrative County established in 1889. These were abolished on 1 April 1974 and the Longbenton UD area was incorporated into the newly established North Tyneside Metropolitan District a lower tier administrative area of Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County. Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County Council was abolished on 1 April 1986, although Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County was not, and Tyne and Wear also exists as a Ceremonial County. Strictly speaking therefore North Tyneside is neither a county nor a unitary authority but due to the abolition of the County Council Camperdown is included in the Current County/Unitary Authority Top classification.
