  • afoster says...
  • Boldon Hills is in the historic county of Durham. It lay in the former Boldon Urban District between 1894 and 1974 a lower tier administrative area of the former Durham Administrative County established in 1889. These were abolished on 1 April 1974 and the Boldon UD area was incorporated into the newly established South Tyneside Metropolitan District a lower tier administrative area of Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County. Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County Council was abolished on 1 April 1986, although Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County was not, and Tyne and Wear also exists as a Ceremonial County. Strictly speaking therefore South Tyneside is neither a county nor a unitary authority but due to the abolition of the County Council Boldon Hills is included in the Current County/Unitary Authority Top classification.
