  • Chris Pearson says...
  • 12/1/15 In trees next to busy road 50 metres of squelchy muddy path and a tangle of brambles to stride through to highest point. From web: The name 'Sanderstead', which was written in the Domesday Book as 'Sanstede', is thought to mean 'Sandy place', which would agree with the nature of the soil beneath the Plantation.   The wood is noted for Bluebells, during May There was a brick reservoir in the middle of the wood but this was demolished in 1969 as it was believed to be unsafe and the area was covered in soil and all that is visible today is a small mound.
