  • Chris Pearson says...
  • From Weags Bridge along the beautiful lush, narrow meandering Manifold Valley to a slippery limestone footpath up through wood and encroaching nettles to open pasture for a steep climb to a grassy summit ridge. The Manifold cycle track was once The Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway - built to a 2 ft 6 inch narrow gauge to reduce construction costs. It mainly carried milk from dairies and also provided passenger services to the small villages, most of which were high and steep climbs up above the valley bottom stations (e.g Grindon) which contributed to its demise.
