Member's Comments on Raspit Hill...

  • Chris Pearson says...
  • "Caution Bridelway Open Extreme Gradient" so reads the sign from the east, and steep it was, thence above along quarry to high point on bank. The quarry supplied ragstone (a hard grey limestone) for nearby Ightham Mote (pronounced "Item Mote") a 14th C medieval moated half timbered house. Kentish Ragstone has been the most utilised hard rock within Kent over the last 1000 years and is commonly seen throughout the county, particularly in houses, walls and churches , e.g Leeds Castle.
