GPX Walking Routes

Warcop Ranges, Scordale and Murton Pike

Most of this route lies within the MOD Warcop Training Area and can only be attempted on non live firing days. The first part of the route skirts the impact zone and live firing areas. It is essential to stay on the public rights of way and not to touch any objects that you find anywhere on the range After the impact zone the route climbs up Warcop Scarth and then crosses the back of Tinside Rigg before descending beautiful Swindale. The ascent of the canyon of Scordale is particularly attractive with old mine workings and waterfalls on both sides. Clearing the end of Scordale, the route skirts the top of Murton Fell before a final pull up Murton Pike. Although much of the route follows rights of way many of them are walked so infrequently that there are no paths to follow but there are occasional way marks.27.5km, 1067m ascent/descent, 7hr.

Lord's Seat to Graystones from Whinlatter Pass

From free car park at Spout Force the route follows a forest track and then a footpath to the summit of Lord's Seat. The start of the footpath section can be hard to find and the next section is difficult in the bracken season. From the summit the path follows the ridge line rising and falling via Broom Fell to the top of Graystones. The descent is straight down alongside the wall line and requires care, especially in wet weather as it very steep! 8.5km,465m ascent/descent, 2:40hr. Recorded 08/10/15
