  • A fascinating place. Samphire Hoe is made from 4.9 million cubic metres of chalk dug dumped from the Channel Tunnel, and converted into a country park. The site is owned by Eurotunnel Ltd., It is accessible by the public via a single-track tunnel controlled by traffic lights,(3 and half minutes wait between changes) which crosses over the Kent Coast railway line. Trig gone -site inside the ventilation buildings for thetunnel. Security guard told me all 40 fans working well today. The usual high security fence and gate had the usual keep out warning signs (in english and french) and unusual one warning "poisonous snakes - adders are frequently found in the grass here - beware". Walked up through the steeply slanting tunnel to Shakespeare Cliff
