This summer we spent 2 weeks in Austria.  The first week we went to Matrei am Brenner and from there we did the following multiday hutting trip.

Day 1 – Vals (1345m) to Geraer Hütte (2326m)
Train from Matrei to Steinach then a bus to Vals.   Started at Touristenrast Inn, took then Central Alpine Way 502 to the hut.
Distance: 7km, ascent: 985m

Day 2 – Geraer Hütte to Pfitscher-Joch-Haus (2,275m)
Took Route 502, 528 over the Alpeiner Scharte and then Die Lenzen 528 to the Pfitscher-Joch-Haus
Distance: 11.2km, ascent: 876m, descent: 926m

Day 3 – Pfitscher-Joch-Haus to Hochfeiler Hut (2,715m)
Descended route 3 to the road, then ascend route 1 via Unterberg Alm and Platte Gildergang
Distance: 9.2km, ascent: 1,034m, descent: 604m

We then went up the valley to look at the Gliederferner glacier.

Day 4 – Hochfeiler Hut to Hochfeiler Summit (3,509m)
Ascended the mountain up along the SW ridge in the rain and back, some old ice at the top but nothing difficult.

Day 5 – Hochfeiler Hut to St Jakob (1,449m)
A sunny day desceneding to the valley.

We then spent a couple of days transfering to Matrei im Osttirol, via Matrei am Brenner, and Kufstein.
We had an appartment booked for the 2nd week and the plan was to climb the Großvenediger via the Bremner Hut, the Kristallwand and the Defreggerhaus.
However the weather took a turn with lots of fresh snow fall and we sacked that idea off due to hightened avalanch risk.

Day 8 – A walk around Matrei
On finding the local ski lift closed for the day, we did a nice walk around the town and up to Prossegg and the Steiner Waterfall.

Day 9 – Gruben to Matrei
We hoped to spend a night at Brenner Hut (anyway) and set off from Gruben, however the rain was heavy and we quickly sacked that off too.  Instead we walked back to Matrei.

Day 10 – Round trip from Matreier Tauernhaus
We walkwed to the Venediggerhaus along the Gschlößbach, try not to miss the bus back to Matrei as its a very long wait or a hitch!

Day 11 – A round trip from Goldried
Took the Goldried cable car and climbed Gorner (2702m)

Day 12 – Umbalfaelle Waterfall then to Bobojack
We used the bus to get to Ströden, and to get back from Bobojack. Beware everything is closed on a Saturday!
