Austria 2026

Austria 2026

This year we did a 3 day section of the Inntaler Höhenweg from Innsbruck:

Day 1 : Bus from Innsbruck to the Patscherkofel using the patscherkofelbahn then walked up to the Glungezerhuette.

Day 2: Lizumer Huette – actually due to knee issues we took an alternative route to avoid the main ridge.

Day 3: Weidener Huette –

Wildspitze

Wildspitze

We then transfered to Soelden with a plan to complete the glacier Venter round and bag the Similaun and Wildespitze (again). However in the light of the ongoing knee issues we changed the plan to just do day hikes from Soleden. Our hotel gave us the Soelden guest pass which gave us incredible free access to busses, lifts and even a day’s free bike hire.

Day 5: We took the Gigglijochbahn and walked round to Mittlestation on the Glaislachkogelbahn then popped up the Glaislachkogel too as we had free use of the lift.

Day 6: We took the bus up to Rettenbach glacier, then the list to the Schwarze Schneid (3335m). From there we roped up and bimbled down the glacier back to the Rettenbachjoch. We then walked back to the Gigglijochbahn.

Day 7: We took a bus around to Hochgurgl and the lift to Dolomiten-blick. and walked down.

Day 8: We took a bus round to the Tiefenbach and walked back to the Glaislachkogelbahn via Heidealm for lunch.

Day 9: Another bus to Oetz to take the lift to Hochoetz (2020m)

Day 10: Took advantage of the free mountain bike hire to cycle down hill to Laengenfeld, and return by bus (which have free bike racks too).

Day 11: we had intended to finish the trip off with some easy Via Feratta but a disapointing forecast put us off.
