Aviemore February 2026
This February we spent a week in Aviemore after a few days with friends in the Lake District.
Weather was mixed so we didn’t achieve as much as we wanted but here is what we did.
- Helm Crag and Steel Fell from Grasmere
- Low level walk around Grasmere and Rydal water from Ambleside
- Short walk around Loch Faskally and the Fish Ladder in Pitlochary en-route
- Linear walk from Nethy Bridge via Boat of Garten on the Speyside way back to Aviemore
- Walked up to Coire an-t Snecter to look at the gullies – dubious cornices prevented any actual climbing
- Hire electric mountain bikes and cycled around via Ryvoan bothy – so much fun
- day off to rest sore bottoms
- Walked up to Cairngorm via the Ptarmigan tea shop on a beutiful but very cold & windy day
- Climbed Fiacaill Ridge (Grade 1) in thick cloud – the only thing going without a cornice!
- added an extra day to stop off in Lochabar and climb Aonach Mor in beautiful weather – ‘easy’ gully was too hard to attempt due to cornicing.
