  • Good to see so many families enjoying this wonderful spot of open access countryside. Views both inland and along coast eastwards to cliffs beyond Brighton.
  • Chris Pearson says...
  • A night ascent in wellies (for chalky mud)from the road top to the north. Moon shadow on the white chalk path from a full(ish) moon breaking through the clouds. Inky black void of the unlit Downs contrasting to the lit coastal strip. Lots of interesting info on web about the flint mines, iron age fort (~500BC)with a 1 mile around earthbank which would have taken 20 men 2 years to build. Also a hot spot area for crop circles and ufo fans. Royal Argyl & Sutherland Highlanders camped out here before Normandy landings, and a large gun placed here to fire on ships on the Channel. Ran around the hill at about the half way point during the Steyning Stinger Marathon ~2007 -a day of driving sideways rain.
