  • 28/12/14 A beautiful winter's day with no wind , blue sky, sunshine and snow cover above 300 metres. Up the Old Man first via the less trodden SE path. Icy cold breeze on summit and mist swirling in from the west. double halo broken spectres. Very busy summit. Someone smoking an e-cigarette - I got a whiff of the vapour! Along to Brim Fell then compass work and ice axe out for the misty uncertain descent out to Raven Tor which turned out to be straightforward snow slope as the map indicated and less steep than appeared in the gloom from above. Someone had built a snowman on the path down to Low Water. Nasty icy main path where all the snow had been compressed by the hordes of walkers (including many dogs and families heading up up The Old Man. easier to walk on the snow alongside. 50 +cars at Walna Scar road end (New Year week). We had left ours in Coniston, not risking the unknown ice on the road up -a wise move.
