- Don't get taken in by the short climb from the road and the very attractive looking outcrops of millstone grit(?). The ascent direct from the gate near the reservoir is an unrelenting slog of bracken, bramble and gorse. Instead continue north on the minor road to the area of the spot height and then climb though the old oak woodland and then horse paths though the gorse for a more direct and easier walk. Out of interest has anyone looked at the height of the col between here and the summit to the south on the same side of the road. Again its a real slog the final 100m to the top but the views are better and there may or may not be 30m reascent.
