  • 22/12/14 As it had rained all day yesterday we wisely steered well away from the direct footpath link from The Knott across Black Moss (swamp?) and walked around by road via Rosthwaite -(homemade jams for sale). Almost every farm seemed to be a holiday cottage nicely done up including Woodland Hall complex by this hill. Seat near the top. Back in the early 90's a gang of us had stayed in the then new concept of bunkhouse barns just below at Fell End. Today a rapid march back to Broughton followed before dark (at 4pm on 22 Dec!)down through Kirkby Park Wood and a nasty km on verge of main road -no footpath.
