• Along with Chrome Hill the shapely Parkhouse Hills are geologically the remains of an atoll (a 'reef knoll') which is believed to have existed during the Carboniferous period (300 million years ago)when what is now the Peak District was covered by a tropical sea. The surrounding rocks are much softer and so can be preferentially eroded. Chrome and Parkhouse lie at the divide between limestone and the much softer shale. On access land which I gained from Glutton Grange Farm (aka the Etihad Stadium as a proud sign announced confirmed by a large Man City flag flying from a flag pole)
