- This hill rises above the Stocksbridge steel works which, from initially making umbrella stays began making steel in 1860 when Samuel Fox installed 48 crucibles. It soon supplied products such as rails, springs, steel tyres and axles to nearly every railway company around the world. Today it is owned by Tata and specialises in the production of high grade and special steels. All of the steel produced is made from recycled steel.
