Quiet woods behind the busy Rotherham Hospital and College. A SSSI and and also a Heritage Woodland which means that the area has been woodland for at least four hundred years. There was a Bronze Age settlement and also an Iron Age fort and farmstead On the hillsides here a sandstone rock called Mexborough Red Rock was quarried -used for the the restoration of impressive the Rotherham Minster. One of the rock faces is now recognised as a RIGS or regionally important geological site.
