  • Squeeze through fence from ROW to covered reservoir. On rural fringes of the coastal resort of Whitstable famous for oysters, which have been collected in the area since Roman times and are celebrated at the annual Whitstable Oyster Festival. In 1830, one of the earliest passenger railway services was opened by the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway Company; (disused line shown on current map to east of hill- linking to Canterbury only 5 miles inland ) The railway line's initials—C&WR— led to its nickname, the Crab And Winkle Railway.
