• I really must get my eyes tested as I had not spotted how close together the contours were on 1:50000 map for a 'quick diversion from the footpath at col to east' It began craggy with sloping shelves of mushy bog and pine needles. Next up was a barbed wire topped deer fence that I got over at a wobbly bit where something had half crushed its height. More steep craggy ledges led up to a wall crossing too close to the drop behind for comfort. Finally low branches to a small clearing. Luckily I had watched a documentary about climbing K2 the previous evening. Avoided all above by veering NE on descent -not too bad -and back tracking to wobbly fence to escape. Then broke into a run again onwards -as the rain began to fall onto the much easier Castle Wood Fell.
