- From Monsal Head Hotel along path to RHS of stone walls. Summit seems clear; but built a small cairn from scattered rocks (not from the stone wall!) where I thought it was. Great view of the viaduct on the way that 99%+ of tourists never see

- The site is located on the crest of a steep sided bluff with steep scarps dropping off over 170m to the floor of the deeply incised valley known as Monsal Dale. The site commands panoramic views in all directions and the other Peak District hillforts at Ball Cross, Burr Tor and Mam Tor are visible from the site. This is no doubt salient as it would have allowed for rapid communication between these sites. In the summers of 2009 and 2010, excavations including children from six local schools and hundreds of other volunteers excavated this enigmatic site. Iron Age hill fort on the summit of Finn Cop. 9 skeletons (so far)- all women or children -who appear to have been killed and thrown into a ditch. Easy ascent through gates in fields from footpath to the east during a 20km 4 top walk from / to Ashford on a hot July day. On to Monsal Head and Cressbrook.
