Garmin Geko 201

Garmin Geko 201 GPS

The GPS of choice for me is the Garmin Geko 201.

I like it because it is very light, very small and very easy to use. Its great value for money too.

It is basic, but i also think that is a plus point. It tells you where you are, it keeps track of where you’ve been as a tracklog, and will show you nearby waypoints that you’ve uploaded from my site.
No frills, no fuss, no extraneous battery sucking rubbish.

If i broke mine, i’d buy exactly the same modle again.

I’ve never had one of these, but as a buyer-and-seller of old GPSs, have used a GPS 12, GPS 12XL, eTrex ‘Yellow’, eTrex H, eTrex Vista, eTrex Venture, eTrex Venture Cx, eTrex Legend, GPS 60, GPSMAP 60CSx, eTrex 10, eTrex 20, Colorado 300, Magellan 2000, Magellan eXplorist. If I had one in my backpack or round my neck it would be the good old ‘Yellow’ – one of the older models but ultra-reliable and pretty much bomb-proof. The Geko is its smaller cousin, and although old and not so waterproof, must be more comfortable around the neck or in the pocket because of its smaller size. About 20 on Ebay at the moment.
