- Kinder - The pride of the Dark Peak with its thousands of peat groughs and gritsone edges, and its centre stage role in the freedom to roam mass trespass of the 1930s. Living in Sheffield, Kinder was a regular magnet -although seldom to the actual summit cairn adrift in the interior. Running the Kinder Edges (good sandy paths), or Edale skyline are favourites and once the Kinder Dozen,with L, a killer circuit of 12 different ascents and descents -24 miles ( best time so far being 7hr 45mins). Memories of summer's bivi on the plateau with L before going into work. Climbing on The Downfall in winter - tunneling a cornice! and in my youthful days being benighted in winter on my own when biting off more than I could chew and sitting the night out!

- How many people visit the trig point at Kinder Low, but never actually visit the actual summit of this mountain, half a mile away? Alright there are a couple of hundred people below, but that figure is utterly dwarfed by the thousands upon thousands of people who have visited Kinder Low over the years. When I first visited it in 1979, I can't remember there being any cairns, but there certainly was at least one, when I went there in 1990. No GPS, and no online lists with precise map references back then to rely on. Just good old map and compass work.
